Plasma cutting is a cutting technology that allows you to quickly and accurately perform even the most complex metal processing tasks. It is the most efficient technology for producing metal products for many industries (construction, mechanical engineering). Using plasma cutting, you can manufacture metal structures of any purpose and complexity.
Key Advantages of Plasma Metal Cutting
Plasma cutting allows simultaneous work with several sheets, which significantly saves time. This method can process different types of materials: aluminum, stainless steel, copper, and many others.
Notably, plasma systems are safe to use. They do not use combustible gases, open flames, or produce much heat. This significantly reduces risks for operators working with hot metals. The heat-affected zone is only 2 millimeters.
All the characteristics of plasma cutting positively affect costs during secondary material processing. Work is done qualitatively, quickly, and universally. For many tasks, these advantages are more desirable than others.
For each metal processed by plasma, there are specific features. For stainless steel — large diameter round blanks can be obtained; mechanical methods cannot cut stainless steel sheets in shaped forms. For titanium and titanium alloys — no formation of hard intermetallic phases.
Plasma cutting of metal has its features and advantages compared to oxy-fuel and laser cutting:
Maximum sheet metal dimensions: 1500 x 3000 mm; thickness up to 22 mm (thicker sheets use gas cutting).
Gas Cutting Method
Gas cutting is quite popular and economically viable. It is also called oxy-fuel cutting because the metal is thermally affected by oxygen. A jet of oxygen follows the heating and removes residual liquid oxide. Initially, the upper edge of the part is heated. Depending on the chemical composition of the material (e.g., steel), its ignition temperature varies from 1000 to 1200 degrees Celsius.
Advantages of the oxy-fuel metal processing method:
